Empower Kids For Literacy
Empower Kids For Literacy is a non-profit organization that Lisa Graham founded based on her love for children and books.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
To promote literacy and mental health through the formation of partnerships within the community by providing children with access to books in underserved communities.
It is my belief, without question, that all children have the right to have access to books and the support system to learn how to read, despite their social or personal circumstances.
All children need to know they are loved, are capable of loving, and belong.
All children are born with specific talents. Once we can empower them and help identify what these are, we can then assist them in finding their purpose, and ultimately, their voice. By supporting creativity and imagination through reading, we open up a whole new world to our children. Reading will help to keep them connected in their communities, bolstering their self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth.
Children are growing up in a society where technology is vital, and electronic devices are how most of our children stay connected. In other words, when you hold the world in the palm of your hand through an electronic device, it’s easy to miss the magic happening around you!
Through the Empower Kids for Literacy Foundation, my wish is to encourage parents and caregivers not to lose sight of the benefits and emotional connection reading to and with our children offer. It’s difficult to imagine a house with no books, but the sad reality is that many children do not have access to books growing up.
By forming partnerships in communities with change makers who lead with servant hearts, I hope to change this.
